Faculty Handbook
Getting started
Leading a study abroad program can seem overwhelming at times, particularly if you have never led one before. If you have taken over responsibility for an existing program, talk to the previous leaders to learn the various pitfalls and lessons learned in order to make your program as successful as possible. Whether you are new to leading an existing or new program, OSA will assist you throughout the process. Meet with your program coordinator to get up to speed, and read through this handbook to obtain an overview of the recommended pre-departure and on-site steps. Depending on when your program takes place, you may wish to review the checklists under the faculty section of the OSA site for steps in leading programs during academic year, fall, spring, winter break, and summer sessions.
During the fall and spring semesters OSA sponsors a new study abroad faculty orientation. Information regarding when these are offered is provided in the Study Abroad Faculty Memo e-mails. In an effort to improve the communication between OSA and the study abroad faculty leadership, these electronic memos provide leaders with study abroad information and suggested activities.
