"Learning
about foreign business culture from books is sufficient to learn basic
courtesies and expectations before being put in a new situation, but
reading should never replace learning a culture first-hand. My internship
at DaimlerChrysler gave me the experience to learn German business
culture from the inside, rather than from an American viewpoint. Not
only did I learn from my colleagues, but from the work I did in the
pricing department. My work incorporated applying what I have learned
at Michigan State in addition to providing an inside look into the
profile of German Mercedes customers-an interesting cultural lesson!
In any business major, a foreign internship or study-abroad internship
should be mandatory; informing oneself about a foreign culture will
never be as important as learning to adapt in one." |
